Laser Focusing
Laser Engravers use a field lens to engrave onto the surface of specific materials. The LP3's laser beam is reflected and directed by the galvanometer mirror and refracted when passing through the lens. Proper focusing ensures the energy of the laser beam is concentrated on one point resulting in an accurate high-quality effect. Improper focusing will result in unclear, uneven, or no effect at all.
LP3 Electric Stand & Focusing Specs
The recommended focal distance of the LP3 is 130 mm which can be achieved using one of the following two methods: red light focusing or manual focusing.
The travel distance of the LP3 Laser Unit when attached to the Electric Stand is from 100 mm to 220 mm, measured from the Base Plate to the rim of the Field Lens.
Press the up or down button at the top of the Electric Stand tower to raise or lower the Laser Unit 1 mm. Press and hold the up or down button for continuous movement.
When using the LP3 on the Electric Stand, the maximum material thickness is 90 mm.
LP3 Focal Methods
The standard LP3 setup is with the Laser Unit attached to the Electric Stand. In this configuration, there are two focusing methods, Red Light Focusing and Manual Focusing.
1. Red Light Focusing Method
The LP3 is equipped with dual red light focusing technology. In "Preview" mode, two red beams are emitted from apetures located next to the Laser Unit's lens. Adjust the height of the Electric Stand up or down until the two red lights overlap and merge into one on the surface of the work material.
2. Manual Focusing Method
To adjust the focal distance with the manual focusing method, use a ruler to measure the distance from the rim of the field lens to the top of the material to be engraved. Adjust the height of the Electric Stand up or down until the distance measures 130 mm. Please make sure not to touch or scratch the lens.
When using the Versatile Rotary Extension accessory or when engraving objects that are thicker than 90 mm, first attach the Riser accessory to the Electric Stand bracket and then use one of the above focusing methods.
