Leveling & Balancing the LP4

  • Updated

This tutorial provides step-by-step instructions for leveling the LP4 to ensure optimal laser performance and engraving accuracy.

Each LP4 Laser Unit is individually leveled at the factory before packaging and shipment. However, components may loosen slightly during transportation, which can result in a minor tilt of the Laser Unit or a visible gap between the bracket and the Electric Stand. To address this, the LP4 is equipped with an easy-to-adjust Leveling Jig located on the underside of the Laser Unit.

Perform these adjustments if the bracket is not flush with the Electric Stand, or as part of routine maintenance to ensure the laser remains properly leveled.

To eliminate external variables, we recommend starting from Step 1, as if setting up the LP4 for the first time.

Before Starting

① Handle and transport the LP4 Laser Unit with care. Always disconnect power before making adjustments, and avoid touching or damaging the lens.
② A gradienter (carpenter’s level) is required for this procedure. It is not included in the LP4 toolbox.

Step 1: LP4 Assembly

1.1 Assemble the Electric Stand

Place the Base Plate and the Electric Stand on a clean, flat surface. From the LP4 toolbox, remove the four M4×10 screws and the H2.5 hex key.

Use a gradienter to confirm that your working surface is flat and level.

Align the Electric Stand with the four screw holes of the Base Plate. Turn both parts over, insert the four M4×10 screws from the underside of the Base Plate, and tighten them securely using the hex key.

Ensure that the Electric Stand is perpendicular to the Base Plate and that the bracket is parallel to the Base Plate. Tighten the bolt firmly to secure the bracket in position.

1.2 Attach the Laser Unit to the Electric Stand

Align the Laser Unit with the connecting bolt embedded in the Electric Stand bracket. Secure it by tightening the knob firmly.

Confirm that all bolts are fully tightened and that the Laser Unit sits flat and flush against the bracket. Use a gradienter to verify that all vertical and horizontal surfaces of the assembled LP4 and Electric Stand are level and aligned (see Step 3).

1.3 Install the Riser (Optional)

The Riser increases the LP4 height by 50 mm, allowing engraving on objects of varying sizes, thicknesses, and shapes when used with the Slide Extension or Rotary Extension.

Assemble the Electric Stand as described in Step 1.1, then place the Electric Stand, LP4 Laser Unit, and Riser on a clean, flat surface.

Next, align the Laser Unit with the connecting bolt on the Riser and tighten the knob firmly.

Ensure that all three bolts are fully tightened and that the Laser Unit and Riser are securely connected, flat, and flush. Use a gradienter to confirm that all vertical and horizontal surfaces are level (see Step 3).

Step 2: Level the Laser Unit

Use the Leveling Jig to fine-tune the LP4 Laser Unit.

2.1 Level Left to Right

(1) Remove the H2 hex key from the LP4 toolbox.

(2) Facing the LP4, place a gradienter horizontally across the touch screen and observe the position of the air bubble.

(3) If the bubble is not centered, adjust the left screw of the Leveling Jig:

  • Bubble leaning to the right: Turn the screw counterclockwise gradually.
  • Bubble leaning to the left: Turn the screw clockwise gradually.

The LP4 is level when the bubble is centered. These steps apply whether or not the Riser is installed.

2.2 Level Front to Back

Facing the LP4, place the gradienter vertically on the touch screen, aligned with the handle.

If the bubble is not centered, adjust the right screw of the Leveling Jig:

  • Bubble leaning away from you: Turn the screw counterclockwise gradually.
  • Bubble leaning toward you: Turn the screw clockwise gradually.

Step 3: Verify LP4 Level Balance

3.1 Check the LP4 Level and Balance

To confirm that the LP4 is level both horizontally and vertically, place gradienters simultaneously on the following areas:

  • Touch Screen
  • End of the Handle
  • Far End of the Laser Unit
  • Base Plate

  • If all bubbles are centered, the LP4 is properly balanced and ready for use.
  • If any bubble is off-center, the LP4 is not fully balanced. Restart from Step 1 to confirm proper assembly, then repeat Step 2 to fine-tune the leveling.

(When facing the LP4)

Gradienter Placement Bubble Position Adjustment
Horizontal Left Left screw – Clockwise
Right Left screw – Counterclockwise
Vertical Back Right screw – Clockwise
Front Right screw – Counterclockwise

3.3 If the Leveling Jig Reaches Its Adjustment Limit

If the screws reach their limit during adjustment:

(1) Confirm that your working surface is flat and level.

(2) Reinstall the lens cover and remove the Laser Unit from the Electric Stand.

(3) Using the hex key, turn both Leveling Jig screws clockwise until the jig is flush with the Laser Unit body.

(4) Reattach the Laser Unit and resume leveling from Step 2.

Additional Notes

  • The Leveling Jig adjusts the internal laser alignment. Even if a slight tilt or gap remains visible between the bracket and Electric Stand, the laser can still be fully balanced and function correctly.
  • To allow free vertical movement, the bracket cannot be fully tightened flush against the Electric Stand. A minor gap is normal and does not affect accuracy once leveling is complete.
  • If you are unable to level your LP4 after following all steps, please contact LaserPecker Technical Support Team at support@laserpecker.com for assistance or warranty service.
