Engraving Different Types of Materials
The LaserPecker Design Space Software and App have a list of suggested preset parameters for engraving a variety of compatible materials. These settings are provided to help achieve optimal engraving results and make using different materials easier. Please note that due to variations in the composition of all materials, the exact settings may vary and testing is highly recommended.
LP3 Compatible Materials
The LP3 can engrave on most pure metals and alloys including gold, silver, copper, aluminum, iron, titanium and stainless steel. The LP3 can also be engraved on plastics including AEV, PET, acrylic, PH, and PVC without pretreatment. Additionally, the LP3 can engrave on artificial leather, lacquered paper and wood, and certain types of stones and clays.
LP3 Working Area
The standard engraving area of the LP3 is an oval measuring 115 mm x 80 mm. When using the Versatile Electric Roller accessory, the extended engraving area is a square measuring 65 mm x 65 mm.
Preview Mode
Previewing projects before engraving makes sizing and positioning designs really easy. Just click the preview button while using LaserPecker's LDS App or LDS Software and you'll see a blue outline on the material indicating the area to be engraved. Adjustments can be made in real-time for precision alignment and saved projects maintain the x/y grid coordinates for quick and accurate repeat jobs.
LP3 Focusing
Laser engravers use field lenses to engrave onto the surface of specific materials. The LP3's laser beam is reflected and directed by the galvanometer mirror and refracted when passing through the lens. Proper focusing ensures the energy of the laser beam is concentrated on one point resulting in an accurate high-quality effect. Improper focusing will result in unclear, uneven, or no effect at all.
The recommended focal distance of the LP3 is 130 mm which can be achieved using one of the following two methods: red light focusing or manual focusing.
Press the up or down button at the top of the Electric Stand tower to raise or lower the Laser Unit 0.5 mm. Press and hold the up or down button for continuous movement.
The LP3 is equipped with dual red light focusing technology. In "Preview" mode, two red beams are emitted from apertures located next to the Laser Unit's lens. Adjust the height of the Electric Stand up or down until the two red lights overlap and merge into one on the surface of the work material.
To adjust the focal distance using the manual focusing method, use a ruler to measure the distance from the rim of the optical lens to the top of the material to be engraved. Adjust the height of the Electric Stand up or down until the distance measures 130 mm. Please make sure not to touch or scratch the lens.
When using the Versatile Rotary Extension accessory or when engraving objects that are thicker than 90 mm, first attach the Riser accessory to the Electric Stand bracket and then use one of the above focusing methods.
LP3 Scope of Use
The LP3 can operate continuously for 168 hours and the lifetime is in excess of 10,000 hours.
After 10,000 hours, the LP3 will still function, but the power of the laser will begin to diminish. To compensate for this, higher power and/or depth settings should be used to achieve similar engraving results as before.
Users in need of replacement components can contact the LaserPecker customer care team for details including price, shipping, and time required. Of course, purchasing a new LP3 at that time is also possible. Please contact via support@laserpecker.com
LP3 Weight
The net weight of the LP3 while mounted to the Electric Stand is approximately 2.54 kg or 55.6 pounds.
LP3 - Inside or Out
Due to its compact size, lightweight, and small footprint, the LP3 is easy to store or carry and it can be set up and ready to work anywhere in no time. With 12V/5A DC compatibility, the LP3 can be powered at outdoor events or demonstrations by a portable power source. Click these links to check out the LaserPecker Power Bank and Powerpack Plus.
Engraving Large Materials
It is possible to engrave objects that are too large to be placed on the Base Plate under the LP3 Laser Unit. There are two methods to do so, by adjusting the angle of the Electric Stand bracket or by removing the cut out section in the Base Plate.
Position the object in front of the LP3 and adjust the angle of the Electric Stand bracket so the bottom of the Laser Unit is pointing towards, and perpendicular to, the surface of the object to be engraved. Focus the laser using either the red light or the manual method, but adjust the distance by moving the object rather than by moving the Electric Tower up or down.
Or, with the section of the Base Plate removed, place the entire LP3 on top of or over the object to be engraved. Make sure that the Base Plate is positioned safely and level and focus the laser using either the red light or the manual method.
LP3 Firmware Upgrades
Firmware upgrades for the LP3 can be done using either the LaserPecker Design Space Software for PCs or the LaserPecker Design Space App for mobile devices. Click the link for step-by-step firmware upgrade instructions.
LP3 Maintenance
If you notice that the LP3's engravings aren't as deep or it appears that the power of the laser is weakening, it could indicate that the optical lens is dirty. Apply a small amount of alcohol to a clean non-woven cloth and gently clean the lens. Please make sure not to scratch the lens.
